The Humanistic
Jewish Congregation is a compelling option for modern Jewish
identity in the San Diego Area.
Humanistic Jews
understand Judaism as the
human-centered history, culture, civilization, ethical
values, and shared experiences of the Jewish people. We
believe that individuals shape their own lives independent
of a supernatural authority.
(philosophy)
You may recognize that our
humanistic views of Jewish culture, traditions, and
observances correspond with the way in which you would like
to cherish your Judaism. Our warm, caring community
welcomes anyone who identifies with Judaism, including
intercultural families.
(about us)
We hope our website will give you an
understanding of Humanistic Judaism and we encourage you to
visit our congregation. Please feel free to
contact us
for more information. |

Jews in Higher Education
It is without
dispute to say that Jews care about education. One recent report
sponsored by Hillel, the organization for college students,
listed twenty American universities where Jews made up one third
of the enrollment. Only two of these schools were directly
“Jewish” universities, and one was first established by the
Methodist church. In addition, Jews played a part in founding
many of the institutions serving students today.
At the June 15
Shabbat, Madrikha Beverly will present some history and
background of Jews in higher education in the U.S. Then members
will discuss their own experience as Jewish students. The
program will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Encinitas Community
Center and an oneg refreshment will follow.
Please remember
to bring non-perishable food items for the food bank of Jewish
Family Service to this and all Kahal Am programs. |
